Torn Between Strawberry Allergy and Self-Indulgence? A Solution, Finally!BY: Guest User | Category: Health | Submitted: 2010-04-09 09:50:04
Allergies are very common. All people are in fact allergic to something, but what triggers the sneezes, itches, or swellings can be extremely different from one person to another. Some people might be allergic to something so rare that they will never run across it and thus they will never find out that they are allergic. However, there are also many people allergic to the commonest things around us such as flowers, spices, or fruits. Strawberries are no exception that could set off allergic reactions. Many people struggle with strawberry allergy. The tasty red fruit contains hundreds of kinds of protein, and there is one among them that triggers the allergy of some people. The consequences can be in some cases quite serious, anything from the classical sneezing to a throat so seriously swollen that no air gets in and the immediate need for the person to seek medical attention. Better to pay attention if a guest of yours asks for no strawberries - they might have a real problem with that! The good thing is, not all varieties of the said fruit could cause strawberry allergy. Among the many varieties of strawberries, there is however also the Sofar variety that does not contain the troublesome protein which causes such allergic reactions. Apparently, the lack of this protein comes at a price in looks - the Sofar strawberry is white. How is it that we could narrow down on the real protein that causes the strawberry allergy in all that cocktail of proteins? Well, it was for sure not easy; blood samples were taken from allergic patients while their allergy was manifest. Going through all the proteins contained in these blood samples revealed a protein that was known already from people allergic to birch pollen. The birch allergy is quite common at least in Europe and quite everybody heard of it. The interesting thing is that some people have strawberry allergy, but not birch pollen allergy, while others have both of them. Trying to address the problem of strawberry allergy, the strawberry growers of Northern Europe have struggled to refine the safe Sofar variety to get its taste as special as that of the red strawberry. So far it seems though that the red is more than just fancy looks and it has to do with the taste itself; the white Sofar simply doesn't taste the same as its red siblings. We all know that the moment you try to stay away from something, it will appear in the most unexpected places. Strawberries are no exception to this rule. If you have strawberry allergy, you might want to know that strawberry leaves are quite commonly used in skin care creams, shampoos or even herbal. On the other hand, if it looks rosy or smells of strawberry, you might still have a chance: it might contain nothing more than artificial strawberry flavor that mimics the real thing, but costs less. And it does not trigger the unwanted sensitivities of strawberry allergy. Article Source: http://www.writearticles.org/ About Author / Additional Info: Comments on this article: (0 comments so far)
