Truth to tell, I am a homebody. I like staying home, watching tv, videos and surfing the net. Basically the natural stuff a homebody does everyday.

Then one day I was told that my aunt who has been leaving in the States for about 30 years was coming home to Manila for a two month vacation. That was a surprise since she has not really been here for the longest time ever. The second surprise was that she wanted me to accompany her where ever she goes. Oh, that meant travelling and I have to be away from home for the next two months!

I got the jitters! I am not used to travelling. I've been out of the country only once about 8 years ago to a nearby Asian country because my best friend prodded me into it. My travelling experiences include going around the malls, supermarkets, church and sometimes my relatives' houses for family reunions. Weird, huh? Not really, because this is me and I don't think I'm weird... I'm just a homebody.

The day she arrived, we went to a fancy restaurant. Then after , we went to the duty free to buy gifts because it was a privelege for all travellers coming in to Manila to go shopping there. In the afternoon, we went to a dermatologist for her facial...including me, since I had nothing else to do than wait for her, I decided to have one. Good decision because it was a good experience, my first time to have a facial! haha..

The next day we went to visit the memorial park where most of our relatives were buried. Then we went around a mall, had lunch there and went around some more. We went to a church in the center of Manila becuase she was a devotee there.

In two days, we have covered a lot of ground going around the city.

The next day I found myself flying to Boracay! It is one of the travel must-see-destinations of the Philippines and I wrote something about it a few weeks ago! Never did I dream that I was going there, and this is my first time to do so. We stayed there dor three days. The white sand was cool to the feet regardless of the hot sun, the water was also cool even in high noon. Really, I was swimming at 12 noon and I didn't feel the heat! Amazing but true!

Then off to Iloilo, famous for its delicacies and good food like La Paz Batchoy. It is located on the southern part of the Philippines (Visayan/Panay region) and we travelled by land. My cousin hired a van and it was a 5 hour long drive going to that area. We stayed there at the Grand Iloilo Hotel for two days.

Then we went to Bacolod, another province. This time it was a 45 minute ferry ride from Iloilo. Bacolod is also famous for its good food, clean and green surroundings and tourist spots like the Ruins.

The travels I did with my aunt and cousins were eye openers for me. I really got to appreciate the beautiful cities I went to. It was like telling myself that I was missing a lot of things being a homebody most of the time. Sure, travelling means having a schedule to follow like flight details, boat rides in between, making reservations, carrying your luggage on your own, not having enough sleep , a stomach upset because of eating too much and a lot more in between. I had experienced all these, and I was really very happy that I did.

Now that we are back in Manila, we have another schedule to go to. Tomorrow we go to Tagaytay, a cool place like Baguio only it is a lot nearer, about 2 hours away from Manila. Then we are also scheduled to go to a hot springs resort in Laguna.

We already have made travel plans for December this year. We are going to Singapore first, then off to the nearby Asian countires. I can't wait, and I am looking forward to this!

Travelling is a learning experience. I learned that myself as I got to pace myself in almost all situations during my travels. I got to visit local places I haven't been to and tasted good food even though later would cause me a bum stomach. Anyway, I had most first-aid medicines so I was able to cope up.

Now I think I am hooked to travelling. I like it a lot and I would like to do some more of it. I just have to save for the expenses. As of now, I travel for free because of my generous aunt. I guess I'm just a lucky homebody who has a generous aunt who likes to travel, and I am really thankful for all this! Life is good !
