Want to Get Success in Your First Job - Follow This ChecklistBY: Anisa Author | Category: Careers | Submitted: 2010-10-15 23:30:11
Staying at your first job for a longer period of time is very important for your career; however, if you fail to stay at your first job you may find it difficult to get your next job, if you mention your first job experience in your resume. This is due to the fact that spending less time with an employer means lack of stability which is not much appreciated in job market. So it is very important to select a job carefully so that you can end up having a work that interests you, which guarantees you staying longer in that post provided you take into account a few things. Following are a few things you need to take care of to get success in your first job: Pay Attention to your Personality When I say personality, it covers almost every personal aspect starting from brushed teeth and neat clothes to positive attitude. Focus on what you are wearing and ask yourself does it fit the organization's image. Look for your nails, teeth, hair and face and give a professional touch to all of it since an employee makes or breaks a company's image and a company can never bear an employee breaking their image. Be Punctual Punctuality is very important to be successful not only in your first job but in any facet of life. If you are not punctual means you are not responsible and lack of responsibility shows your non-serious attitude towards your work and life. So, it is very important to reach your workplace well on time. If you have scheduled any meetings, conferences or any other appointments you need to make sure you are present at the said place well on time. Go to your Work Regularly Missing work is not a good sign at all. This gives an irresponsible and unstable image of your, so make sure you attend your work regularly. Meet Goals Whether it's your short term goals or long term ones, whether it is marketing goals or production ones, you need to make sure you meet them. For meeting your goals it is very important to set them realistically, so set specific, measurable and realistic goals so that you can achieve them as well. Hold a Positive Attitude If you are not sure yourself that you can do it, how you can expect to convince others. Hold a 'can do' attitude in all the tasks and assignments given to you, as this is the key to prove yourself and make a position in the organization. Complete all the Assigned Work before Deadline Keep in mind that there is no use of delivering the work after the deadline; therefore make sure you complete all your tasks well before time, so that you can have some time for revisions and corrections. Focus on Communication Communication gap leads to misunderstandings which may cause efforts being invested in wrong direction, leading to both wastage of time and efforts. Therefore, it is very important to build strong employee-employer communication and whenever any clarification is required on any task, one should ask it then and there for delaying may result in serious issues. Act Professionally Being professional in work environment is very important to be successful. This doesn't require you to be straight forward and unfriendly, but there must be limits to everything which should not be crossed. Keep your workplace friendships to a limit till you are sure the other person is your friend for true for workplace friendships usually fall prey to office politics and leg pulling. Give respect to others so that you can expect to get it as well. Be Ready to Accept Change Change is inevitable; those who are rigid can't progress in their lives. To be successful you should be open to new ideas. Don't miss any opportunity to learn new things and gain new insights. Adjust yourself to the environment and keep on modifying yourself to fit the ever-changing work needs. Don't be a part of Office Gossips This is the worst thing you could do to your career. Never sit with those colleagues who discuss others. It is better to sit alone than with employees who are in habit of gossiping about other's style, dresses, work patterns, assignments, relations with boss etc. This could only wrap you up in the trap and you will be a topic of discussion sooner or later, therefore it is better to avoid negative coworkers. Give and get respect - A simple rule to success at work. Article Source: http://www.writearticles.org/ About Author / Additional Info: Comments on this article: (0 comments so far)
