Finally the day has come. I never have a doubt on what, perhaps, is best you could do in your life, TRAVEL. If you have not travelled as much and as far as you could have done, you have not lived at all, you are someone who just 'exists'.Travelling brings three good things together: new food, new places and new people. I always look for an excuse and opportunity to pack my bag and catch a train.

Since my rishikesh trip in April 2011, last 92 days have been hectic and full of hard work. The only thing I did in these days was eating, sleeping, studying and more studying. Now when my exams are over and results are yet to come I am going on a west India tour. I have not been to west India before and I am going to go as deep as my pocket and time allows me...
I got my tickets booked two weeks ago, which was not hard since its off season [due to monsoon] in most of the tourists places. The journey plan has stop over in 5 cities in 4 different states covering a distance of over 5000 km in 12 days. Its gonna be fuN!!
Enjoy your time VG!!

DAY-1 13 JULY

I forgot to tell you that I am going solo, not that I don't like company but if friends don't agree why not go with your own self.

My first stopover is UDAIPUR[ Rajasthan], the city of lakes. Big people [Hollywood stars, business tycoons] prefer it as a wedding destination. My seat is booked in mewar express which departs from hazrat nizamuddin at 19:05 and will drop me at Udaipur at 07:10 next morning. So basically I have to dine and sleep while rest will be taken care of by my driver [ train driver to be specific].

I reached station just on time at 18:55 [bad habit, I know] and occupied my S-1, 64. [ seat no.] Indian railways has a bad name when it comes to food but than hunger is not something you can put off for another day so I ordered fried rice with pea curry [ which was surprisingly the only thing available]. The curry was less for a one time meal, thankfully rice were enough to feed me. I have refilled my bottle and going for a sleep.
GOOD NIGHT

DAY-2 14 JULY

I didn't sleep well last night. It happens in train journey that I don't get sound sleep, perhaps, missing my home bed.

My brother [uncle's son] came to pick me at the station [despite me insisting that I know how to and where to reach]. The morning didn't start off well. When I reached home I found that the aunt is ill and when I read the newspaper it told me 'blasts in Mumbai, 40 dead'. The another unexpected call I had already received yesterday by my another uncle that he is going out of town for some work which means I couldn't visit him to his town, Ghandidham, which is my second stopover.

These things are totally undesirable in a journey especially at its start but than 'life is all about what you make of what you got'. I am going to enjoy my breakfast right now, a soft uttapa [south Indian dish] made by my sister -in- law and a glass of milk forgetting all these news which are probably going to change the 'taste' of this journey.

I walked to the local market in the afternoon to buy a city map and ear phone for my phone [which I forgot at home]. In the evening it started raining, spoiling any chance of visiting tourist places. I went to fateh Sagar Lake with my cousin and had a feel of the city. Udaipur is a small, quiet city in middle of hills with beautiful lakes and places. Could I ask for more.........?
SWEET DREAMS.

DAY-3 15 JULY

The morning is bright today with little clouds below the sun [hope they won't rain]. I went to jagdish temple with my uncle. It's a jain temple with artistic white stone work, showing the great talent of forgotten artists, build around 1100 AD. Than we visited city palace which is a big complex on bank of lake pichola where king of mewar used to reside. Well maintained, the city museum houses everything related to kings and their lifestyle: weapons, cloths, pictures, accessories, utensils, bedroom, kitchen, tools, idols, stationary and recorded history. The place was abuzz with tourists, foreign and domestic alike. The beautiful garden in the middle of place, panoramic view of city from the top of palace, the pleasant weather and a taste of ancient history made my day.

We returned home around 15:00 and after lunch I took a nap. It was raining when I woke up at 19:00. Lets see if we can still take out more from the day if rain stops or I will have to watch a movie on computer sitting in here [ not so bad you know].

DAY- 4 16 JULY

After breakfast I went to see 'sahilyon ki bari' on my cousin's motorbike. It is a garden with lotus pond and lots of fountain. After it I drove towards fateh sagar lake. Driving a motorbike In circular roads at the side of lake is pure pleasure. Being at lake give you immense peace and makes a wonderful time-pass. After fateh-sagar it was time to head back home.

After lunch and a little nap [and little rain too, which is surprisingly punctual everyday] I went to get my ghandhidham tickets cancelled because uncle was out of town. I wanted to fast forward my entire journey by 2 days but it is not possible getting confirmed tickets in just two days.

In the evening I went to 'dudh talai' which is on eastern bank of lake pichola and gives it a whole beautiful look, a closer look to 'jag mandir'. In the evening light lake palace and jag mandir were looking like glittering gold. Breeze with fragrance of moist soil was making the place best spot to stop by and enjoy life which exactly I was doing.
What are you doing??

DAY-5 17 JULY

Are you feeling bore that I am in same city even on day 5?? Me too, but what can be done, the second stopover got cancelled so my stay here get extended by two days but hey there are still places to visit so no worries.

I slept quite a time today; don't know what's making me so sleepy today. Its raining heavy outside [ unlike yesterdays] so I will wait for clouds to have their say before making any plans.

After lunch at 14:00 I took my cousin's motorbike to drive to 'sajjangarh' [convincing him to let me drive to sajjangarh was a bit hard]. 'sajjangarh' was monsoon palace of mewar kings. It is situated on a hill top, perhaps, the highest point in entire city, which can be reached via a narrow and steep road. But as I drove through the circular steep hills of Udaipur, the picturesque view of city behind me was worth taking the chance to drive a motorbike on a steep uphill wet road [which could be dangerous].

Driving the bike to the top of the hill was the best experience of Udaipur for me. After spending some time on the top at the palace, looking at the city below, [you can see every nook and corner of Udaipur from here] I came down when it was started raining.
In the evening, I took over the kitchen from my sister in law to make my favorite 'chilly potato' snacks. We also had a visitor today, cousin of my brother [see, I keep forgetting things]. The little kitchen 'endeavor' went well. Brother, sister in law and their cousin appreciate the 'potato' and enjoyed the recipe.

Its almost night now, I may or may not wander again soon, but you stay here and keep reading.

DAY-6 18 JULY

Today is my last day in here. We all are going for a family sight seeing so we have rented a 8-seater quails. Nathdwara ,eklingji and haldi-ghati are some of the places near Udaipur worth visiting. First of all we all [aunt, uncle, brother, sister in law, me] went to haldi-ghati. It's the place where king maharana pratap died fighting with mughals in 1572. It now has a museum build in his remembrance.

Nathdawara and eklingji are temples of different incarnation of Lord Krishna [ my friend and guide]. Cameras were not allowed inside so I have no pictures to show you [do a goggle search]. Both temples has beautiful idols of deity. Eklingji had beautiful stone work similar to one seen at most of hindu temples.

After returning to Udaipur we went to see, moti magri, karni temple, sukhadia circle and so no....
In evening I got news from father that trains to goa has been cancelled due to a landslide and rains are pretty heavy in mumbai. He wanted me to drastically change the route and shorten the length of my journey. I have already spend 2 extra days in Udaipur because of cancellation of my visit to ghandidhamand now I would hate to go back without going deeper into west as I had planned......
