DAY-7 19 JULY

tame Guajarati? Aame Hindi. [Are you Guajarati? I am Hindi. On 7th day of my journey I am in land of mahatma Gandhi, I am in Ahmadabad, Gujarat. I took the morning bus from Udaipur to reach here at 13:00. My train 19144 is scheduled for tonight to Mumbai so I have few hours to check the city and enjoy some Guajarati snacks.

I had a map [drawn by me] of city from a website which will give me the rough idea to which direction to travel. I deposited my luggage at the railway station and went to see a few tourists places in this new emerging metropolitan of west India.

Ahmadabad is not famous as a tourist place but sure have the potential to be one. I went to see jagnath temple, sawminarayan temple and then city museum.

City museum shows a vast history of city through pictures, statues', text and items of historic value. The only known person in city to me is my friend who is doing post graduate diploma in management from IIM-A [Indian institute of management-Ahmadabad]. He was having a hell of classes lately so we only got to meet for a few mins when he showed me the famous institute.

The bus system in city is quite impressive. It's affordable, fast and reliable which is good for tourists like me who don't like to struck in traffic jams or pay exorbitant amount to taxi drivers [ but than who like it?]

Ahmadabad is a new city. You would surely notice new high rises coming up in various places here. Kankaria lake is a beautiful place to spend the evening. Lots of people of all ages were there having 'good times'. The only surprising thing was that the only restaurant there has not a single Guajarati dish in the menu so I had to settle for 'pav bhaji', my regular favorite.

After having my wonderful time at the lake I head towards railway station way before time [as it was past sunset]. I bought a pack of biscuits and snacks from 'moti bakery' near the station before boarding the train 19144 which will take me [in the morning] to the economic capital of India, the most populous city in world and perhaps the most glittering place in my country [ famous among terrorists also], MUMBAI.
Stay with me....

DAY-8 20 JULY

I have never been to Mumbai before and I regret it took me so long to be here. This city clearly has upper hand from delhi in some aspects. Its more developed, clean and fast than my city.

After getting fresh ready I took Mumbai local [ passenger train] from santa cruz [nearest train station to juhu where I am staying] to church gate, the last station on western line. Next to church gate station is marine drive, claimed as second longest beach in world. It's a peaceful corner of city with waves of Arabian Sea hitting the big wall where people like to spend their time.

Near to marine drive is 'kala ghodha art district', which is called so because of presence of several galleries, art points, museum and buildings of architectural grandeur.

National gallery of modern art had a number of art pieces on display by famous artists. Modern art [which I cannot understand] is something which hides more than what it shows. The shahuji maharaj museum is a big museum which is a treat to see. It has section depicting harappan civilization, coinage history of India and a section on lord Krishna. It also has a museum shop which sells things similar to what were on display. I bought a pack of greeting cards from there.

I also visited over- famous taj hotel and gateway of India. The city has a beautiful aesthetic though the crowd is as huge as it can get. The public transport is fast and reliable but traffic jams are very annoying.

Before heading back home[ I am staying at one relative's place] I enjoyed some local snacks, pani puri which tasted different than the taste in Delhi. Its 22:00 and I am going to sleep soon. Arabian Sea is just at the back of my room...

DAY-9 21 JULY

Umbrella is the 'national thing to carry' in this city especially in these months. Rain can and will surprise you. If you are not carrying it, you are at your own risk [ of getting seriously wet].

Its my second day in mumbai and for a change I am going to visit temples today. I visited ISKCON temple and siddhivinayak temple to seek the blessings of god. ISKCON temples was beautiful, they have just repainted the entire temple. It was organized and has stalls of delicious food and psychological books. I bought a set of incense sticks from the shop.

Than I reached, bandra side of 'bandra-worli sea link', a 5km flyover in sea from bandra to worli, in central Mumbai. The idea was to see if such projects, which involves huge mount of money and environmental costs, works or not. The traffic at the link was sufficient to say that the cost has been recovering and the people are getting a much needed facility.

Sidhivinayak temple took me a long walk from dadar east to reach. I had 'darshan' in few minutes, the temple houses the gold idol of lord ganesha and his pet rat. After taking traditional coconut as 'prasad' from the priest, I took a bus to CST [ train terminal] to check the status of my train to goa.

Huge traffic and long walks have made me tried today or I would surely check the Crawford market near CST, famous for its variety of cloths and other daily stuff. At CST, I got the news I never wanted to. My train to goa, 12133 Mangalore express has been cancelled for today. I mean, that's so unwanting. Come-on you [railway people] said you would clear the track by today's evening if it won't rain again. It has not rained since last two days because I had a agreement with god [that's my secret tell no one] and now you have cancelled it, oh gosh. [Goa is more than 700km from here and buses are expensive, time consuming, less comfortable and unreliable].

'Life is all what you make of what you got'.

There were no bus services available to Goa when I called bus operators; they are even denying any service before 7 pm the next day. Extending stay in Mumbai is not an option because I have seen most of it as a tourist and now its huge 'crowd' has started to make me uncomfortable, apart from a little other reasons.

Also, going back to Delhi is not something I would like or I would have got my tickets to Delhi ready and a backup plan. I had a good day today; eat 'vadapav' at dadar. Let's just see how things turn up tomorrow morning, a new day: a new start.....[ give me a kiss, give me your heart]..hah alol I was just trying to be poetic.....
Good night!

DAY-10 22 JULY

At 05:00, I left home [the place I was staying] to take a bus for Goa [ which I knew was not going to easy since buses to Goa ply in evening only] as 'suggested' by my brother -in-law who bide me goodbye [by which he actually meant good-riddance].

There was no bus at Bandra terminal and no bus to my destination on dadar terminal. So I decided to take buses going towards Goa [short route buses]. I didn't know I had to spend all day in some overused tin boxes [who are named as bus]. From Dadar to chiplun, chiplun to haykhamba, haykhamba to rajapur and rajapur to kudal, it was 20:00 when I decided to take stay for the night at a small village near Mumbai-Goa highway. Goa is still 80km to go from here and I couldn't blame anyone for that after 15 hours of journey I am still not at my destination because I understand that wet roads and hilly terrain makes everyone [and everything] slow in here.

I took rice with dal in the dinner which tasted fine.
