DAY-11 23 JULY

Rain in the morning delayed my departure from kudal to panaji [Goa] for 1 hour. At 11:00 am I reached panaji [the capital of Goa]. The first thing I did was to check the status of my train back to Delhi which is tonight. I was satisfied to see that it has not been cancelled and running on schedule. Now I have few hours to check the city because I am already here a day late. Goa remained under Portuguese rule after Indian independence and that's why the city still has Portuguese influence on its buildings, lifestyle and food. Panaji is a small, beautiful city on sea shore with famous quiet beaches at this time of year.

I felt so relaxed here after my long and tiring journey from Mumbai. Beautiful beaches, old churches and wonderful people made my efforts [of reaching here] worth doing.

I straight away went to Dona paula beach which is around 25 mins from city. It's a famous beach and people were doing Jet Ski there for 200 Rs. For 10 minutes. I didn't do it because it was the ski driver who was driving it with people merely sitting with him which to me was not 'real' fun.

After this and Miramar beach I went to mahaveer garden [ near market], Art academy [near beach road] and the famous cathedral at church square. The weather was pleasant and it didn't rain [yuppie].

I tasted 'kokum' [ a Goan fruit] juice at a ladies stall. She was so friendly that even when I wanted to leave after drinking half glass of juice she insisted that I should fill my bottle from it so I can drink it later when thirsty. But I was not sure about drinking too much of something I have never seen before [health reasons] so later I threw it [sorry lady].

I was surprised to find that Goan food does not include a single vegetarian dish in its menu. They have their specialty but only in non-veg items. I wandered at the 18 june road[ wonder wht it is named so] which is a famous road for all kind of shops to buy, eat and drink. Talking about drink, if Gujarat is 'driest' state of India [liquor is banned in the state], Goa can be said as most drunk state of India [wine and liquor are very common, cheap and famous here].
I bought two packs of cashew, little gifts for my friends, few snacks and a bottle of wine and a bottle of feni [a kind of Goan liquor, both for my two cousins [ I don't drink].

I have had a nice day. I like the city. People celebrate life here, enjoy their time unlike people of big cities like delhi, Mumbai where everyone is in hurry for no real reason living in all hush-bush and have a thousand complain to do.

I reached station at 20:00. My train to delhi will come at 02:00 which is very awkward time since you cannot sleep properly and even couldn't keep yourself awake properly. I wanted to extend my stay here and also visit Bangalore [ 600km from here] but that would have mean at least a 3 day affair and I decided against it because I am sure mom is having a hard time [ as she have to do every house chore] without me at home.

I have 6 hours to kill and I am thinking what to do. We do have TV at the station [which is a luxury when you need to kill time] or may be I can talk to this guy I have befriended with [he is going to catch the same train as mine] or may be I can do a few hours of sleep. Lots of choices, I know but you stay here while I take a nap, the journey is still not yet finished.

DAY-12 24 JULY

After seeing 4 cities in 4 different states I am in train back to home. Return journeys are always the longest, boring and dull unless something unexpected happens. I am having a novel with me to pass my time, its 'OH I AM SINGLE, AND SO IS MY GIRLFRIEND' BY Durjoy dutta but it's so stupid, vulgar and poorly written that after literally forcing me to read it I have only able to read 12 pages.

The man seating with me is in defense I think because I can clearly see the features: army haircut, well defined palm, unwillingness to converse and keeping to oneself attitude. Its still 24 hours before I reach to Delhi so I have to think of something to do, I can't sit idle for hours.

The guy at the seat in front of me is reading 'making the meaning of complex world' by some Edward. I borrowed the book from him but couldn't find it to my taste. Its evening and train is running fine. It's unlikely that anything worth mentioning would happen so I am off for now.

DAY-13 25 JULY

In the breakfast I eat a bread omelet which had no species at all. Guess I am not the only one who forgets things. The train will be in Delhi in a few hours. The whether is not so bad in Delhi. It's partly cloudy and partly sunny.

I reached station at 13:20 and it can be said as end to this journey but I am sure its memories and experience will enrich my life for forever.
