Laptop is supposed to make things easier for us, to enable us to actually have a personal computer on the go. As it happens though there are a handful of things you need to bring along when you leave somewhere carrying your laptop. Assuming you leave with a laptop to go to the office or on a business appointment, below is the list of things you should bring with you.

1. Power cord and adapter

This is a number one for a reason. Your battery may not be working, both the primary and the spare one, or you find something wrong in your presentation and spend a couple of hours working on it before your presentation. Some of the times, you never know either how long a presentation is going to take - you may run out of battery in the middle of it.
For especially forgetful person, investing in another powercord and adapter to keep in your laptop bag is a good idea.

2. Mouse

Laptops usually have a built in pointing device like a touchpad or track point) but during a presentation the ease and precision of a regular mouse is often required. Built in pointing device is not that friendly either to use for a length of time. The use of mouse can help reduce the strain you may suffer from using a touchpad or a track point.

A USB mouse is an ideal choice as you can always use the extra USB port that most laptops have. If what you have is a wireless mouse, remember to always bring also an extra set of batteries and the receiver.

3. Office supplies
Basic office supplies should always be packed into your notebook bag. Even if you are using the technology of a laptop these days, pens, papers, paperclips, stapler and the likes still have their uses. You can't scribble a note on the laptop to pass to someones else. The impromptu printed brief needs a stapler to have your name card attached to it. You can even use the paperclip to pry open your DVD or CD drive.

4. Spare battery

It is always better to bring a spare battery than have the occasion to need one and find out that you have forgotten. Remember to always keep it charged as well so as not to end up bringing it for no good reason.

5. Removable Media

There is always a chance you need to burn a CD or DVD, to copy a file for a client or to have a backup of the files you have on your hard drive. If your laptop has a CD or DVD burner, be sure to have some CDs and DVDs ready to take care of business when the needs arise. Always bring a USB flash drive as well. There is always an occasion where you need to transfer a file to someone else's computer and USB flash drive is the best way to do it.

6. Computer cables

You are going to need them and you are going to need them all. Bring the ethernet cable, the USB printer cables, phone cables (if you are using a dial up connection or in the event you need faxing connectivity) FireWire, power cable and all cable there is to it.
When you bring a digital camera, pack also the USB cable you need to connect it to your laptop.

7. Headphones and headset

Bring headphones which are comfortable. You might be waiting and need to listen to the material you are presenting some more. Comfortable headphones are great for extended waiting around as well as respectful toward people around you.
Bring a headset in the event you need to make a call. With the technology of VoIP or voice over ip telephone service, you can always make a phone call from your laptop. You canalso use the headphones to chat or to use the voice recognition software like Dragon Naturally Speaking. You can choose to hook the headphones wired or wireless via Bluetooth, according to your laptop specification.

8. Travel surge protector

When you are at home you naturally always plug your laptop to a surge protector. During a trip or being away from the office, some people may not have the time to arrange for it. Make sure you bring the travel version of it. It costs you around $20, a good price to pay to protect your laptop.

9. Laptop lock or alarm

When you are on the road, it is especially necessary to secure your laptop. Have an anti-theft device attached to your laptop. Lock the machine and activate an alarm that will sound off when the laptop is moved. This will reduce the chance of it being stolen.

These items are not in anyway thorough yet but they are the basic items of what you should bring when you are having your laptop on the go. You may want to also bring a printer, external disk drives, a USB hug and many other things. The list above are simply the things you don't want to forget.
