When a Bad Interviews Occur: How to Make the Best of itBY: Deidre Dorsett | Category: Careers | Submitted: 2010-07-12 17:49:02
There are some of you who have had your good interviews as well as your bad. However, how do you handle the bad interviews whether you are to blame or someone else is? This is the question that you need to ask. There are many things that can go wrong in an interview from you stuttering to them changing the location last minute and making you late. Yet, how do you deal with something like this? The first thing is to remain professional. When you do this, you are sure to have a good impression. We have been some where the person has taken calls. There have been some who just treat you like dirt. While some of you might just be ready to get out of there, you don't want to do that. You want to be as professional as possible. Another thing you need to do is make sure that your body language isn't an impression of what you think of them. They are reading your body language. So, make sure you aren't rolling your eyes or showing shock. This can give it right away that you don't approve. You are still in an interview. Don't bad mouth them on a cell phone until you are safely in the car. We all want to call people who are rooting for us to tell them how it has gone. You wouldn't believe how many have gone wrong and have not been given a job due to this. Even if they didn't want the job, they might have lucked out because someone overheard their conversation. Now, some will tell you that after an interview has gone bad, you shouldn't give a thank you note. However, we tend to disagree. This is something that a person who is mature and professional would do. If you don't do this, then you might find that they do talk. It's pretty slim to none that what they think of you will get out and that you will interview with people in their social circle, but you might just be surprised. Therefore, you should send one. Make sure that when you say goodbye you do tell them that it was a wonderful experience. Truth of the matter be told it was a great experience. They taught you about what could happen and how to handle things when you have one of those disaster interviews that people don't always talk about. Remember these things and you might have the outcome that you are looking for or at least a piece of mind. With peace of mind, you know that you have done what you could and it's no longer in your hands. It can be something that is sort of hard when you think about it because our natural instinct is to tell them they are crazy, laugh in their face, and more. Remember this, and you will be good to go.
